Switching ingest when traveling

When you travel abroad, a closer ingest is worth it. Here's how to plan the switch properly — without downtime and without latency bombs.

Switching ingest when traveling

By default, your FizzyPeak ingest is in the EU (Frankfurt or London). When you travel to the USA, Asia or South America, an additional ingest in the target region is worth it. It saves you latency and makes your bonding more stable.

Why a closer ingest = better quality

Every km between your camera and our ingest server costs you:

  • Higher RTT (Round Trip Time)
  • More packet loss over long distances
  • More buffer latency needed to avoid glitches

Example: a Frankfurt-Berlin stream has ~15 ms RTT. Frankfurt-Tokyo? ~250 ms. An ingest directly in Tokyo brings you back down to ~30 ms.

FizzyPeak ingest regions

We currently have ingests in:

  • EU West: Frankfurt, Amsterdam, London
  • EU North: Stockholm
  • NA East: New York, Toronto
  • NA West: Los Angeles
  • APAC: Tokyo, Singapore
  • SA: São Paulo
  • OCE: Sydney

You'll find the exact list in the dashboard under Ingests → Available Regions.

Planning: 24 hours of lead time

Ingests don't spin up automatically — we provision them on request to avoid unnecessary idle costs.

The right workflow:

  1. At least 24 hours before your departure, request the region in the FizzyPeak dashboard
  2. Dashboard → Ingests → Request New Region
  3. Choose the target region and provide your travel dates
  4. Our team confirms by email and sets up the new ingest

During the trip: both ingests in parallel

Big advantage: your main ingest stays active while the new one runs. You can:

  • Stream from home with the main ingest
  • Switch to the travel ingest on the go
  • Switch back to the main ingest once home

No downtime, no interruption — just switch the ingest endpoint in Belabox or Moblin.

Automatic switching via GPS

Premium users can enable Auto-Ingest-Switching in the dashboard. This uses the GPS data from your camera app and automatically switches to the nearest ingest as soon as you cross a country border.

Tips for specific regions

USA — the East and West Coasts have different ingests. If you're doing a road trip from NY to LA, request both.

Southeast Asia — Singapore is the most stable APAC ingest, even if you're streaming in Thailand or Vietnam. Tokyo has better latency but more packet loss on ASEAN routes.

South America — São Paulo covers Brazil well. For Argentina or Chile you can use US East as an alternative if SA isn't available.

What the travel ingest costs

In most subscriptions, one additional ingest per year is included. Longer trips or several ingests at once cost extra — see the pricing page.

After the trip

When you're back, deactivate the travel ingest in the dashboard. Otherwise it keeps running (and you keep paying). Deactivation is one click and takes effect immediately.
